FEAPS 2

2. The Learning Environment - To maintain a student-centered learning environment that is safe, organized, equitable, flexible, inclusive, and collaborative, the effective educator consistently:

a. Organizes, allocates, and manages the resources of time, space, and attention

Example of compelting FEAP 2a & 2b.

I allocated the students time, space, and attention by keeping them on schedule when lining them up for lunch. It was hard to keep their attention at first but after reminding them that they were going to be late for lunch, they straightened up and transitioned into lining up well. During this routine is where I found my teacher voice. I believe this is what helped me complete this routine.

b. Manages individual and class behaviors through a well-planned management system

I managed individual and class behavior through a well-planned management system by making the students aware of the procedure and repeat the rules with me before lining them up. This encouraged them to listen promptly and I got my desired result. When I was continually repeating the rules, this helped them stay on track and complete the routine properly.

*See picture and link from FEAP 2a for example*

c. Conveys high expectations to all students

I conveyed high expectations to all my students during the dismissal routine. At the beginning of the day, I made sure I repeated what was expected of them throughout the day multiple times. This made them aware of the high expectation that I had for the. At the end of the day, I signed each students planner with a little note talking about their behavior for the day.  This allowed them to see the high expectations that I have for them to follow the rules throughout the day or there would be consequences.

d. Respects students’ cultural, linguistic and family background

I respected my students' cultural, linguistic, and family back ground by interviewing them and getting to know them better so I can plan my lessons to meet their needs. This also allows me to understand who they are and where they come from. I was also able to use this information to help students work better together through out my lessons.

e. Models clear, acceptable oral and written communication skills

I modeled clear, acceptable oral and written  communication skills while leading the dismissal routine by signing their planners, writing a note to their parents and explaining what I wrote so they aren't surprised when they get home. This ensures openness and trust as well.

*See picture for FEAP 2c for example*

f. Maintains a climate of openness, inquiry, fairness and support

I maintained a climate of openness, inquiry, fairness and support while performing a Morning Meeting with the class. From the greeting, to share time, to the Morning Message, and group activity, it was a time for students to question things around them while encouraging each other. The students were able to communicate effectively with each other, feeling safe and challenge throughout the entire lesson/meeting.

g. Integrates current information and communication technologies

I integrated current information and communication technologies by using different recent books, websites, and plickers to help me plan the lesson. Using communication technologies in a kindergarten classroom is a great way to keep all the students engaged. They are not used to using any type of electronics so they loved the experience and it helps prepare them for first grade.

h. Adapts the learning environment to accommodate the differing needs and diversity of students

I adapted the learning environment to accommodate the differing needs and diversity of students by working together and pulling small groups to meet the needs of my learners. The class is full of such a diverse group so making sure I set all students up for success by working through activities such as the note cards in small groups is one way I believe I accommodated my students to meet their needs.

i. Utilizes current and emerging assistive technologies that enable students to participate in highquality communication interactions and achieve their educational goals.

I utilized current and emerging assistive technologies enabling students to participate in high quality communication interactions and achieve their educational goals when I used Google translate to help the ELL student in our classroom participate in the conversions lesson.  Using Google translate made it easy for me to explain what the class was doing in a way she understood while allowing her to ask me questions when she was confused. This made her finally feel like she was apart of our classroom and helped her stay engaged.
