FEAPS 1

1. Instructional Design and Lesson Planning. Applying concepts from human development and learning theories, the effective educator consistently:

a. Aligns instruction with state-adopted standards at the appropriate level of rigor;

I aligned my instruction with Florida state standard MAFS.K.CC.3.6 during the read aloud lesson. I gave the procedures and expectations to the standard that the students could complete this lesson properly and get the most out of it.

b. Sequences lessons and concepts to ensure coherence and required prior knowledge;

I sequenced lessons and concepts to ensure coherence and required prior knowledge by having the students take a pre-assessment showing me what they already know about multiplying a mixed number by a fraction. This allowed me to teach the next days lesson to build on their knowledge from the previous two lessons to see what we still needed to work on.

c. Designs instruction for students to achieve mastery;

I designed instruction for students to achieve mastery by aligning the way I brought the information to the students based off of their learning style. I was able to help them discover the best strategy to attain the information that I taught. It also showed my students that they can continue to use the same strategy when trying to achieve mastery in other content areas as well.

d. Selects appropriate formative assessments to monitor learning

I selected an appropriate formative assessment to monitor learning by having students self-assess themselves before taking the five question quiz. This allowed me to see how good they believe they understand the content, allowing me to compare it to their actual quiz grade. This is one great to monitor learning and keep students accountable and honest with themselves.

e. Uses diagnostic student data to plan lessons;

I used diagnostic data to plan lessons when I gave students a learning style inventory diagnostic test. This told me which students are a part of each learning style, allowing me to create lessons that are tailored to them. This will help them understand the content quicker and easier because I am diving deeper into how they best learn.

f. Develops learning experiences that require students to demonstrate a variety of applicable skills and competencies.

I developed learning experiences that required students to demonstrate a variety of applicable skills and competencies by having the students read information and underline what they believe is important about learning to read coordinates, locate the coordinates on their map, and then find the name of the country and read the information about it as a class. Doing all of these things helped the students answer the riddle successfully. The students were able to learn more about each country as well.
