Classroom management is about teachers handling their students to help them succeed in the classroom environment. So many teachers do not have proper classroom rules, procedures and skills. This leads to students acting out and the teacher not being able to control situations. My CT’s classroom management style is seen through her class rules and procedures. She displays high expectations to all students and works through situations as a group. She never wants a student to feel attacked and/or targeted by anyone in the classroom. Minimal individual and class consequences is important for the self-esteem of the students. Making sure that parents are involved in the students’ lives is important as well. My CT encourages to have parents come in and situate their children so they can discuss with the student and parent about what’s going on in the classroom and the child’s life. This created an environment of love, acceptance and unity between the classroom and family.
My picture consisted of a rule chart, a heart and a family. It is depicting structure, love, and school/family unity. My classmates understood what I was trying to convey and they added things that I never would have thought about such as organized and time management. I learned that my classroom management style is very time and family oriented. This also made me realize that I am a very rules oriented teacher. This activity demonstrates FEAP 5e. I engaged in targeting professional growth opportunities and reflective practices, both independently and in collaboration with colleagues by creating a play-doh mold of classroom management and having other fellow students elaborate and discuss my picture. I also had the opportunity to look at other pictures too. Viewing other classmates models helped open my eyes to others takes on classroom management and how it can be important in the lives of students.
