Teacher efficacy, according to EdPsych Modules, “is a belief by teachers that they have the skills necessary to teach all students effectively” (Durwin & Reese-Webber, 2017, p. 318). My CT spends more time on her lesson plans, tries different instructional methods, focuses more on mastery, fosters positive self-esteem and is extremely persistent when helping students that do not understand. These are all characteristics of a teacher with high efficacy. The students, over time, will pick up on these traits and continue to perform at higher level because they are more motivated to succeed. What are the characteristics of a teacher with high efficacy that the students pick up on the most?
I believe that teacher efficacy and the visibility of how much they care is what fosters the idea of self-efficacy, motivation and self-regulation in the lives of students. A lot of the students in my classroom lack these three vital things, and even at the age of five, it is very evident in their class work. My CT has only had them for 60 days now and I can see a change in the lives and learning of these students, but they still have a long way to go. Two things that I have really notices are that the behavior issues and lack of motivation impede the teaching and learning done in the classroom and the lack of parental support has a reflection on the grades that their child receives. What are ways that you can encourage parents to be there for their child academically?
