Time Celebration/Struggle/Question Claim about teaching practice
0:53
Students began to freak-out when I passed out the pre-test.
This shows me that making sure things do not look like a test will help you get the results you want without the grief from the students.
3:47
Students did not perform as well as I thought they would. Most of the students could not name more than two states in the south east region.
Pre-tests give so much insight to student knowledge and what they still need to know about the content.
5:22
The students could not tell me what the regions of the U.S. were or what region we lived in.
This tells me that the stickier you make a lesson, the better your students will remember it. I think that the previous teachers did not make this lesson very friendly, therefore, none of the students remember the content.
9:22-53
Two students came up with an easy way to identify Arkansas and Kentucky.
Allowing students to speak up and teach each other can be extremely successful. Its always great when you allow them to make connections with each other.
17:09
Students were very engaged and doing well with the flash card review. There were little to no issues and 3/4th of the class went from knowing one or two to being able to name all the states found in the south east region.
Giving students an engaging activity on top of everything will help the information stick in their brains better.
22:56
Students were using their mnemonic devices and little tricks to answer the questions on the assessment correctly.
This is another instance where making the activity of content engaging will help the information stick better. The students will always be able to recall this information.
27:44
Students cleaned the activity up without being asked and transitioned quietly into dismissal time.
Because the activity was so fun, they were more inclined to listen, clean it up and transition quietly to get ready to leave.
